Not worth the hype: Umberto Giannini Backcomb In A Bottle

Oh volume - how I covet thee!

Now I wasn't expecting miracles from this super sleek can but I was hoping the mist would inject some much needed volume when I occasionally straighten all signs of life out my hair.  Unfortunately, as you can probably tell by the title, Umberto and his gang failed to create a product to grant my wish...

I did give it a really good shot and used it...

- on freshly washed hair
- on 2 day old hair
- with my head upside down
- from 6 inches away (recommended)
- from 2 inches away
- from 10 inches away
- with a hairdryer

and a combination of all these.

Can you tell I really wanted to love it?!

Unfortunately, it just left my hair not only without volume but also lank, greasy and sticky (basically my greatest fear...)

I know this is a product which has had the blogging community buzzing but it did just not do it for me. I can get great results from a can of dry shampoo which is not only cheaper, but much more widely accessible.  Not is all lost though, my best friend Molly loves it - as do so many others of you out there - so will be going to a loving home soon... :)

What were your experiences with Backcomb In A Bottle?  Please tell me I'm not the only one to hate it??!

  2. i'm not a fan either!
i bought mine last summer along with the salt water/beach waves one for when i was going to V fest (in the hope that even though my face would look rank, at least my hair wouldn't) - but it did!
so you're not the only one :)

  3. I bought it before all the hype and hated it, thought it was bloody useless!
I've tried it recently and if i use a little less and really rub it in i do get volume, but i mean, it seems so much messing about when i could just use a round brush and a hairdryer!
I completely agree with you! x

  4. I didn't like it either! I found it made my hair sticky and even when I really really really rubbed it in it just made me look like I'd been dragged through a bush backwards. Such a let down :( x

  5. OMG! I am so with you.

When I see people saying they love it, I get so confused.. HOW is that possible?

It gave no volume (the point of it?)
It made my hair sticky, stuck together in clumps, and greasy and leaving me with a huge need to wash my hair immediately!

    Massive fail product!

  8. I'm not a fan either! I bought it after Lollipop26 rated it but I can't stand it, i had to run out and get a bottle of Batiste at work because UG left my hair so greasy and dirty looking. It was mank! lol x

  9. I bought this a few months ago as I have thick hair but on nights out it needs an extra bit of a boost...needless to say I'm not that impressed. I think it just looks like I'm overdone it on the hairspray!

One spray I've always been impressed by is the TIGI S-Factor Body Booster spray - it's a bit pricey and can feel a bit sticky but it really does give volume that lasts :) x

  11. ahh thanks George! unfortunately though I was an idiot, and when I bought "it" first time, I actually accidentally picked up their dry shampoo (which I do recommend), then when I bought it for the 2nd time, & actually got the backcomb in a bottle, I thought it was pretty bad as well! xx

  13. Haha it's because I never pick up the one from the front of the shelf, & then I obviously didn't check. If she likes it she can have mine too! xo

  14. @Mybutterfly63 - I really hope it works for you, hate seeing people waste money on useless products! xx

I'm kind of glad nobody else liked it - I was wondering if I was doing something wrong! And thanks Jen for the recommendation - I love TIGI so I'll definitely check it out! xx

  19. I got mine through their PR company and tried it out, it left my roots disgustingly sticky and I just felt I needed to wash my hair straight away after using it, just glad I didn't waist my money!

  20. I got this too after seeing you with it and thought I'll try it out: currently liking it but leaves my hair knotty as if I've just been through a hedge backwards. I'll stick to my faithful comb xxx
