Soap and Glory: The Breakfast Scrub vs Flake Away

As a self confessed Soap and Glory addict, I have noticed the new additions to their ever-expanding range then quickly picked up my old favourites and dashed to the till.  What can I say, I'm a creature of habit!

I was therefore excited, but dubious, to finally try out The Breakfast Scrub that arrived in my Pink Big.  If only to see how it fared against my all time favourite, Flake Away...

The Breakfast Scrub
300ml - £9.25

As soon as you unscrew the lid to this product, you can see where the name comes from...I defy you to not crave pancakes and maple syrup when you smell this!

The domed tub, with the classic S&G design we've all come to know and love, is packed with golden sugar particles; banana, almond and honey extracts; shea butter and gentle oatmeal grains. It really does smell good enough to eat (not advisable..).

These ingredients combine to form a scrub that is harsh enough to provide a great exfoliation but is gentle enough not to leave your skin red raw.  I think this lies with the oatmeal grains that are large enough to buff your skin but in a soft way.

My skin was left touchably soft from the exfoliation with a very slight sheen thanks to the shea butter and scented beautifully from the maple syrup fragrance - a solid 10/10!

Flake Away
300ml - £6.64

Having gone through numerous tubs of this scrub, I knew to expect the classic Soap and Glory fragrance with this scrub.  Pretty, floral, girly...it's pretty good!

However, as soon as I started scrubbing with it I realised it is a lot harsher than the Breakfast Scrub due to the large grains of rock salt.  Some may like this - and I do when I need to get rid of stubborn fake tan - but compared to the gentle Breakfast Scrub it was a bit of a shock.

My skin however did thank me for it and was left super soft and also with a gentle sheen, much like its counterpart.

The Winner?

Ooh this is a tough one - picking a body scrub is of course very important in the grand scheme of things..!

It's a tie I think!

The Breakfast Scrub is fantastic for a gentle regular body polish.  The scent definitely wins me over.

Flake Away still holds a place in my heart for tanning - either prepping the skin or getting rid of the old stuff.

What are you opinions on these?  Do you have a firm favourite or is their place for both of them in your bathroom?!

  1. I've never tried either of them but I used to be a fan of Ted Baker's sugar scrub but it left my skin feeling quite waxy.. do either of these do that?

  2. They are both really good scrubs, but I like the Flake Away more, purely because I prefer the scent. The Breakfast scrub smells too foody for me. x

  3. @Sarah - I do know what you mean - the scent is very sweet and after a heavy night, it can be quite sickly! x

  5. The Breakfast Scrub: Last year I discovered the gorgeous range that is soap and glory. I was delighted to be given a huge tote bag full of soap and glory products; some that were familiar to me and some I hadn't come across before. As I have now had a chance to try out most of the goodies, I thought it was time to share my thoughts.

One of my favourite products contained in the tote bag was one that was new to me; Soap and Glory the breakfast scrub. The scrub comes in a 300 ml round shaped plastic bowl that actually looks like a breakfast bowl. It is topped by a girly pink screw top lid. It has the signature retro packing of all soap and Glory products that I think is really clever and eye catching. The tub I received didn't have any instructions for use. The information on the top of the lid announces that this body scrub now has a great new maple fragrance. It contains oats, Shea butter, golden sugar scrub particles, and natural organic capuacu bio scrubs, banana, almond and honey extracts.

On opening the lid I was immediately aware of the lovely smell of maple. It reminded me of eating maple syrup pancakes when I was in America! The scrub itself is a coffee coloured with black bits visible through the clear plastic pot. I decided to use this scrub in the shower and after getting my skin wet, I scooped out a small amount from the pot and massaged into my skin, using circular movements. I would advise that you turn the shower off whilst you massage the scrub into your skin, otherwise it is washed off too quickly. The scent is amazing and makes this scrub smell good enough to eat! When I first took a scoop of this scrub I was aware that it felt very grainy. However it doesn't feel rough as it is massaged into the skin. The scrub is easy to rinse off, leaving your skin feeling amazingly soft with that gorgeous scent!

I have used this scrub in the bath, but didn't like the black particles that ended up floating in my bath water! The other problem was that the bottom of the bath was left covered in small sandy type bits .I now only use this scrub in the shower!

My husband paid just £25 for the tote bag containing numerous soap and glory products. The breakfast 300 ml pot of breakfast scrub costs £9.25 from Boots. I think this is a high price tag, even though this is a lovely scrub. At that price I won't be replacing my pot when it runs out! However I can highly recommend this scrub, it smells gorgeous, leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft and is fun to use!

  6. @Shea Butter - haha I'm glad I'm not the only one to think of pancakes when this is used! You're right about it leaving a residue in your bath - I guess this is to be expected with all grainy scrubs though! xx
